EV FAQs2018-09-05T15:58:54+00:00

Feel like you could totally live without those hot Cheetos and grimy pump handles from the gas station but not quite sure how this EV world works. We get it. Let us help you understand that the only range you should be worrying about is the next mountain range you’re chasing and the only recharging you should be focused on is getting in your hot shower in the morning.
Here are the flesh and bones, the vitals of EVs.
Get a good pulse on it while EVs become more and more alive.

What is the difference between a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle and an All Electric Vehicle?2018-09-05T16:09:06+00:00

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) are those that do not use a plug at all. These have extra batteries on board to produce better fuel economy and power, the electric components work as a team with the combustion components while driving. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) run all electric components for a only a specific range (typically 20-30 miles), and then internal combustion engine kicks in. Wayfind can build/convert your internal combustion engine to be a hybrid if desired! An All Electric Vehicle only runs on and only has electric components, it has more batteries and more range. We can convert your internal combustion engine (ICE) car entirely to an All Electric by gutting the internal combustion engine and swapping in electric components. See our Build page here.

What is the lifetime of an Electric Vehicle?2018-09-05T16:01:23+00:00

People worry that EV batteries won’t last as long as the good ole’ internal combustion engines. Trust us, that is a myth. This is coming from a family that formerly bought Tacomas because they never die, and drove old Dodge Diesels with hundreds of thousands miles on it. We understand longevity. With EV’s there are less moving parts. This lends to a more manageable, easily maintained car, therefore increasing lifetime. Different batteries and motors have various warranties. For example, Nissan and GM offer 8 years or 100,000 miles on their lithium-ion batteries found in the popular Leaf and Volt. Tesla offers 8 years with unlimited miles. There are also differences per state. In California and other states with similar emissions laws, GM increases their warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles for Partial Zero Emission Vehicles. The battery ecosystem is rapidly growing to meet the demands of EV lifestyle.

If I drive an Electric Vehicle am I really driving clean?2018-09-05T16:06:52+00:00

Yes, yes and yes. Come visit us where we are based, Salt Lake, and you will see inversion hanging in our valley during the winter months that will make you want to run to our shop to buy your EV. Visit LA, where we just moved from, and you’ll see that dense populations need to adopt EVs for cleaner air. China has rapidly starting leading the market in EV sales, enough said. Non-electric vehicles contribute harmful pollution namely, PM 2.5. Studies show that EVs produce roughly 99% lower emissions of volatile organic compounds. Beyond air quality, EVs can get their power from clean renewable energy found in our dear Mother Earth’s sun and wind. Also, Wayfind converts old cars to brand new, electric vehicles…how’s that for recycling and being squeaky clean?

Where do I charge?2018-09-18T21:44:57+00:00

Primarily, your garage is your new gas station, especially because there are federal and state incentives for home chargers. There, you plug into your standard 120 volt household outlet overnight. Or, plug in an EV home charger purchased through the Wayfind Store that plugs into a 240 volt AC like the one your clothing dryer is plugged into. This is safe, it won’t zap your power bill, and can charge your car from empty to full in typically 3 hours. Need a 240 volt AC outlet installed? We can help there too with our approved Wayfind Electricians found in our Wayfind Store. Don’t have a garage, live in the city, park on the street? Check out the collective in our Marketplace for charge sharing services! When out and about there are apps, subscriptions, maps and lots of resources for you. These are usually paid per charge or on a subscription basis. The charging infrastructure is developing and growing fast, there are multiple Level 3 (DC) chargers available that charge your EV in 30 minutes or less.

How and when will I have to recharge?2018-09-05T16:02:34+00:00

Level 1 charging plugs into your standard 120 volt outlet at home and can charge your car overnight. Level 2 charging uses a charging box plugged into a 240 volt AC outlet, like your clothing dryer, and can charge your car in 3-4 hours. Level 1 and 2 chargers convert AC power from wall to DC power for your car. Level 3 charging is a 480 volt DC charger station and can charge your car in 30 minutes. When you’ll have to charge will depend on the range of your car from empty to full charge. Also, consider that you typically won’t be running your car to complete empty so charging may be faster than estimated times.

What do I do for a road trip?2018-09-18T21:46:53+00:00

In our Marketplace you can find apps and seek services that are tailored to your adventure. Between Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, new ways to charge, off-grid development there should be no worry here about how you’re going to stay charged while you travel off the beaten path. The EV Collective here will help you Wayfind your trails and map where, and how to charge out on the road. We encourage you to not be afraid of this very essential part of life. We will make it so easy for you to Wayfind, we may as well just offer to build your fire for your campsite too.

How much maintenance does an All Electric require?2018-09-05T16:03:18+00:00

Say goodbye to that stinky, greasy auto shop. With EV’s there’s no oil, no exhaust, no fuel pump, no spark plugs, no belts, see the trend? EV motors, batteries, and electronics have little to no regular maintenance unlike it’s internal combustion engine friend that’s rolling into the auto garage for that weird clanking noise. We’ve all been there and it stinks, literally.

Where do I go when I want tuning or specific services for my Electric Vehicle?2018-09-18T21:48:11+00:00

Here. Wayfind. The Wayfind EV Collective is your crew, your people that can help. Services, engineers, experts, gearheads, tuners, found in our Marketplace. Connect here and work collectively.

Are Electric Vehicles cheaper than gasoline vehicles?2018-09-18T21:51:42+00:00

EV’s are traditionally half the cost of gasoline to power the vehicle. The Department of Energy’s eGallon calculator, will prove it to you. Also, compare the entire savings with the Department of Energy’s Fuel Cost and Savings Calculator. When you are talking purchasing price, this is where Wayfind excels, contact us and let’s talk about buying your EV.
